MBH banking app
Case study
Redesign a Hungarian banking app’s account overview.
As a double citizen I have two bank accounts, a Swedish and a Hungarian one. So it means I see the difference every time I need to handle my financials. I recognised that when I use the Swedish SEB’s web application, I don’t feel stressed and I know that if I start a task it will be seamless. In contrast, when I need to arrange something in the Hungarian MBH’s web app, I always procrastinate to do it.
Why?

About MBH
MBH Bank (Magyar Bankholding) is a financial institution founded by merging of three bigger banks in 2020.
So many Hungarian citizens and companies use its applications (both the web and mobile) to handle their economy.
According to statistics I analyzed from Similarweb, more than 60% of users using MBH’s banking app on desktop.
Personally, I also like sit down and handle my finances on desktop. (Although I usually prefer mobile apps)

The problem
It is so complicated to use, it is often not so obvious where can I find the most suitable information, I feel lost. And because of this feeling I am not even sure that my money is in the best place.
Note that MBH’s mobile app’s user experience is much more refined and this case study doesn’t include it.
In this redesign I focus on two specific user flows (to be able to check a user’s account’s balance and history the easiest way possible) as according to my experience this is the most common act among banking app users.

The Competition
Using the Swedish SEB’s desktop application is so smooth so I decided to use that as an example to redesign MBH’s user experience.
Pointing out the strengths and reusing them in my design is the main solution in this case study.
Although I also found some weaknesses which I am trying to avoid to use.

The Solution

The conclusion
It is always worth to look for good practices from the market, but treat them with caution as they need to be implemented in the current context and not just be copied.
I am pretty satisfied with the final result even if it doesn’t cover all of the functionalities but offers a solution for the original problem.
